If you’re looking for a totally comprehensive way to get fit with an app, Jillian Michaels Slim Down is a great option. It doesn’t just focus just one element of wellness, it gives you tools to succeed both in the gym and in the kitchen: full workouts and meal plans with recipes. It’s like Jillian gave you the keys to the Biggest Loser Ranch.

After personalizing the app for my age, height, weight and fitness goals, my exercise plan served up 4 unique weekly circuit training workouts, one cardio day and two rest days. Totally doable. With only a resistance band, a fitness ball and some medium weights (I grabbed 8 lbs.), the workout was an hour of work and gave my muscles a beating from head-to-toe. Using varieties of exercises that were totally new to me (like the clock lunge, where have I been?) and peppering in some cardio moments like mountain climbers, the hour was spent really efficiently.

Totally addicted to your FlyBarre class and couldn’t possible swap out that workout (come into the city, please, FlyBarre)? This app still has elements that will help to keep your weight loss journey in check. The meal plan no longer has you guessing at the approximate calorie count of your food – if you follow the recipes and do the prep, you’ll be eating the right amount of the right stuff to keep your tushy tight (or whatever your fitness goals may be).  The app’s journaling tool also gives you the means to keep track of your exercise and eating.

The app is available for iOS and Android.

Cost: the app is free, but if you want access to all of its features (recipes and workouts), it will cost you $3.99/week charged as an in-app purchase.
