Can You Masturbate Too Much and Break Your Vagina?
“I think I’ve been using my vibrators too much. I may have broken my vagina.” This was an actual text I sent to Jeana Anderson Cohen. That’s right. I’m not afraid or ashamed to say I masturbate. (Girl, did you listen to that podcast episode?) Plus, after a season of celibacy from partnered sex, what should a girl do when feeling frisky? Enter some of the best sex toys.
Most women feel especially confident, DTF, and frisky when they’re ovulating — but can you ever get it on too much? Whether you’re getting it on with your partner or riding solo, can you masturbate too much? What happens if you masturbate too much, and is masturbating too much bad? Here’s what the sexperts had to say.
Can you masturbate too much?
There’s no, one definitive answer to whether women can masturbate too much, shares Michael Green, MD, a board-certified ob-gyn at Winona. Masturbation is a normal and healthy part of human sexuality, and the frequency and intensity of masturbation can vary from person to person.
In general, masturbation is considered safe and has numerous benefits, such as improved sexual function, increased self-awareness, and stress relief. However, excessive masturbation, like any behavior, can become a problem if it interferes with daily life or causes emotional or physical harm.
What happens if you masturbate too much?
Sex coach and Velvet Co. sex expert, Julieta Chiara, recommends masturbating as often as you’d like — as long as masturbation doesn’t interrupt your life, physical health, or relationships.
If you’re wondering what happens if you masturbate too much or what are some signs you may want to take a break from masturbating, Chiara says that can vary from person to person — but the most common sign is usually genital irritation.
“Usually, someone who has outdone their body’s capacity may have irritated skin, microabrasions, or sore genitalia,” she says. “It is also recommended that someone take a break from masturbating if it is interrupting their life, like getting in the way of relationships and work.”
Is masturbating too much bad?
If you’re wondering if it’s bad how much you’re masturbating, Chiara reassures us it’s completely normal. “If masturbating often is something that feels good and benefits you, by all means, enjoy the gifts of your own body,” she says.
Okay, so can you break your vagina through masturbation? (Umm, asking for a friend and by a friend I mean me.) “It is not possible to break the vagina through masturbation,” says Green. “However, excessive or rough masturbation can cause temporary discomfort or soreness in the genital area.”
Green recommends engaging in self-exploration comfortably and safely and seeking medical attention if persistent discomfort or pain occurs.
Chiara agrees. “You cannot break your vagina from masturbating too much,” she says. “If we can push entire humans out, masturbation alone will not come close. What can happen is irritation from constant friction, so make sure to use ample lubricant, and take breaks when needed.”
Need some lube recommendations? Try Pure for Men Coconut-Based Lube (a personal favorite). They also offer silicone-based lube and water-based lube. Another favorite of mine is GLEAM, a water-based lubricant.
So…can you masturbate too much?
Masturbation is a great way to boost your confidence, explore your body, and get it on when you’re feeling frisky. Though you can’t actually break your vagina from masturbating too much (thank goodness), there are some signs to watch out for that may indicate the Queen V needs a little break. Take that time to learn about other parts of your body. Maybe you dabble in other erogenous zones or try to have a different type of orgasm. Challenge, accepted.
