Creamy Green Avocado Smoothie
I love green smoothies. As with most things, I go through phases of obsession. My recent green smoothie obsession has an extra green ingredient: avocado.
Try this concoction post-workout – makes two servings.
Blend all Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1/2 cup coconut water
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 banana
- 1 avocado
- 1 TBS chia seeds
- (optional) 1 scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder
Helpful tip: I was recently at a baby shower and the conversation in the room naturally turned to avocados. Naturally. If the avocados at your grocery store are all rock hard but you want guac tomorrow, never fear. Buy them anyway and follow these simple directions. Remove the stem from the top of the avocado so that all you can see is the indentation where the stem once was. Place your unripe avocados in a paper bag with an apple. I know it sounds crazy, but the Internet has confirmed it.
According to AvocadoCentral.com,
“The plant hormone ethylene, which occurs naturally in fruits like apples and bananas, triggers the ripening process. When combined in a brown paper bag, which helps to trap the ethylene gases produced by these fruits, these gases can cause the fruits to ripen faster together.”
Science.
Drink up!
