Every Friday this month, we interview a fearless entrepreneur or CEO for The Fearless Series. In each interview, we deconstruct the fears that go hand-in-hand with entrepreneurship and share these fearless leaders’ tactics to overcome them.
Our third #FearlessFriday features Leah Caplanis, Founder and CEO of Social Sparkling Wines. Leah was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 26. She turned to holistic medicine to help her overcome cancer and found that it was extremely difficult to be social and enjoy a drink without harming her body. Leah embarked on a mission to create an alcoholic option that would bring people together to enjoy themselves while still finding balance.
Leah is absolutely fearless and believes that the best way to overcome fear is to simply forget about it. Most of our fears never come to be, so instead of focusing on them, she encourages us focus on what our ideal situation is and what we can do to get there. When we do this, we are actively choosing to focus on finding enjoyment, rather than fear.
Her biggest piece of advice is if you cannot simply ignore fear – use it to ignite you. As you’re working towards your ideal, you’re building your fear-fighting muscles. As these muscles grow you learn to control and overcome fear. This takes practice – so get to it.
