Yoga for Runners Description
Date & Time: October 20th from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Registration starts at 3:30pm.
Running is a fantastic cardiovascular workout that floods the body with endorphins and many runners find its rhythmic, meditative nature a natural stress reliever. The downside of repetitive motion, however, is that it taxes select group of muscles (hamstrings, quadriceps, hip flexors and shoulders) and neglects the remainder. This can lead to muscular imbalances and, eventually injury.
This workshop will focus on alignment by exploring our anatomy and building a platform of knowledge to improve your running. By understanding running anatomy, we can stay injury-free.
The workshop will include a lecture component, followed by an all-levels practice where you will explore pre-run and post-run yoga poses to prepare your body for both activity and rest.Throughout the practice we will build some heat, eventually slowing down for deep yin stretches to lengthen the fascia, allowing the muscles to lengthen to relieve pressure on the joints. Objectives: Understand running anatomy and alignment. Identify yoga poses to become a stronger, smoother runner who is less prone to injury.
Who’s it for? This workshop is for athletes looking to include yoga in their training, those who already practice yoga regularly, and anyone curious to see how yoga can help their running.
